HOW TO USE THE NUMUS DATA REPAIR UTILITY

The data repair utility comes with Moneta - it's on the CD, but it can also be downloaded from our website in case you can't find the CD. It can be found at
http://www.numus.com/downloads.htm and the version does *not* have to match the
version of Moneta you are running. First, however, it's always a good idea to have a backup of whatever data
you currently have before trying any fixes.
Under Windows Vista, you must right click on the repair program and then
select "Run as Administrator".

Moneta must always be *closed* when running the repair program. Find the
program Moneta2DataRepair.exe and run it - you can run it from
anywhere on your computer or even directly from the CD if you want. A small
screen will come up with a box to enter the file name to repair, and there
are two buttons, one labeled "Fix It!" and the other labeled close. The close
button is only for ending the program. The "Fix It!" button is dim at first,
and will only darken once the file name you have entered is found on the computer.
You don't need any location (path) info for the repair program, it will find the right file if you just give it the name (it knows where to look by
examining the computer's registry, or an ini file in the case of Vista). Most problems will give an error message with the name of the problem data table, but sometimes not. However, the prime suspects are usually the Momaster, Details, and Purchase data tables though others are possible (these 3 files are the ones that get written to the most). So if the error
message gives you a table name, startwith that one, if not, start with the Momaster table, since that is most likely. So just type the word Momaster in the entry box and then hit the "enter" key on your keyboard. The "Fix It!" button should then darken. Then click on "Fix It!". Another screen will pop up, and probably a small box wanting a password. Just say OK to the password box if it appears without entering anything (everything you need is passed programmatically). The program will then examine and hopefully repair any problems it finds in the file. The program will finally either say the table looked OK, or there were errors. If there were errors you should look at the errors tab on the program and see what they were. The most important thing is to ensure that it says the errors were fixed. If not, let Numus know. Then you can close the second small screen and that should leave you with the original screen open - the one with the entry box and the "Fix It!" button. You can close that and try Moneta. If necessary you can try other file names - the most important being the ones mentioned above Momaster, Details, and Purchase. Just repeat the above procedure, only replacing Momaster with the names Details and Purchase. Odds are that will fix your problem. When all else fails, methodically going through all of the file family names found in the Monetadb almost always will solve the problem. You'll see that any file (such as Momaster.*) can have from 1 (.DB) to as many as 7 or so file extensions, like .DB, .PX, XGO, YGO, etc. All of those are considered part of the Momaster family and all are checked by just running the repair utility using the name Momaster. So the file extensions aren't important to the repair utility, only the file "family" names. When you think you have found the problem - a table that was found to have errors but that was then repaired - you can finally click on the close button and then retry Moneta. When you finally close the repair program you may get a warning box about some kind of error, but that is normal if you run the program from the CD - don't worry about it - it's just complaining that it could not update a log file which of course it can't because the files are on a read-only CD. NOTE - If you check all of the data tables, in Vista the Monetadb is at <drive>\users\<username>\AppData\Local\Numus\Moneta2\Monetadb In previous versions of Windows the Monetadb is at <drive>\Program Files\Numus\Moneta2\Monetadb
