"Moneta is a very useful program, perhaps the best in its class,
targeted to anyone interested in Roman Imperial coinage."

The Classical & Medieval Numismatic Society

What is Moneta?
Moneta (pronounced "Mow-nay-tah") was the first of a series of numismatic programs from Numus.
Moneta deals with the Roman Imperial and Provincial series of coins from 27 BC until 498 AD.

Version 2.0 provides the following:
  1) A catalog for your collection, with images and print-outs (two styles).
  2) A search-engine for your collection (holds ~ 20,000 coins with images, 100,000 without).
  3) Reference material on rulers, denominations, and mints
         - equal to over 435 single-spaced pages of background information.
  4) Import/export functions ('Moneta' format and CSV).
  5) Automatic printing of customizable 'flip' inserts (single or double-sided in two sizes).
  6) A history for your collection, tracking removals.
  7) A database for your dealers and fellow collectors.
  8) A mint mark search system of 7,240 mint marks.*
  9) An obverse inscription search system of over 5,940 obverse inscriptions.*
  10) A reverse inscription search system of over 15,110 reverse inscriptions.*
  11) A true-type font of Latin & Greek characters, and over 70 mint control marks.
  12) A 'City Identifier' with over 1,000 city names and epithets to identify Provincial coins.
  13) Manual or automatic numbering via a customizable system.

  14) Automatic dating from mint marks and  inscriptions when possible.
  15) A summary of your collection by material and value.
  16) Compressed data backup and a companion program to restore the data if necessary.
  17) Complete portability of reports to the internet, word processors, and e-mail.

* Mostly Courtesy of Spink and Son, owners of the copyright on the "Roman  Imperial Coinage" series, 10 volumes which are 'a must' for collectors.
Additionally Moneta eases your cataloging effort by automatic conversions of differing measurement systems of weight and diameter, drop down lists for obverse inscriptions and obverse descriptions, an obverse inscription finder (from a partial legend), and a city identifier for provincial coins.  Mint and denomination drop-down lists are in approximately 14 different groupings, eliminating most impossible choices for any ruler.  The program provides security through optional passwords and optional substitution codes for costs/values and dates.  Extensive customization capability allows you to configure the program to fit your needs via adding, deleting, or changing rulers, mints, denominations,   metals, reference categories or inscriptions.

Moneta currently runs on IBM-compatible PC's with Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista operating system.

Unsolicited comments from Moneta users

Over the past couple of years that I have used the program, I have been
very pleased with it.  I can only imagine the amount of work that went into
its creation - making it one heck of a good value.

In these times where everything seems to be over-hyped, it is nice to purchase a
product that not only meets your expectations, but exceeds them. This program is one
of those products!  I wish I had found it sooner.  Thank you very much.    Michigan

I just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for your excellent software.  I
am mostly through entering my collection and am wondering how I managed
before.  I develop software for a living as well and appreciate the work that
you have put into Moneta.  Hats off to you this is an excellent utility that has
added a great deal of enjoyment to me when dealing with my collection.   California

(Following message was posted on an ancient coin forum by a Delaware user)
I received the Moneta software early this week, and I've been absorbed in it ever
since.  Not only is it a wonderful organization, cataloging, and attribution tool, but
it's also great for reference.  Never has identifying mint marks been so easy and
accurate, not to mention confirming obverse and reverse inscriptions.  There is
detailed information about mints, denominations, and the lives of emperors, all of
which help to identify coins to greater certainty.  Also, dates of issue are
automatically tabulated.  It's like having dozens of attribution and reference sites
on your PC.  And, it's easy to use!  I can't say enough about it.  Numus has really
done us all a great service, and any collector of Roman Imperial Coins needs this.
Thanks for the great program.     New Jersey

I am very pleased with Moneta.  My mind boggles at the huge amount of work
that you've done in assembling the gigantic quantity of data and information
that is incorporated into this software package.         New York

The program is really well done.    California

Great product.          Washington

I await the upgrade eagerly.  I am using your program and liking very much.    Brazil

I keep wondering how I ever got along without Moneta. :)   Indiana

Really nifty program.    Wisconsin

Trust me: your product *is* first rate.    Canada

Absolutely delighted with Moneta.   Australia

A fine and long over-due data base for Roman Coins.  I have been a
collector for 15 years and have enjoyed your program very much.     Texas

Moneta - good one!   New Zealand

By the way, it is really a nice piece of programming and a very good
program.  Working for IBM I can tell you from experience that ease of use is
important and that you have done a wonderful job with this.   New Jersey

A nice program.  No regrets.    Pennsylvania

It is an outstanding program.   Illinois

This software is incredible, thanks so much for developing it.   Alaska

I have tried several of the available programs and I love Moneta.  It's the one I use
and I highly endorse it for keeping track of your Roman collection.   Arizona

My acid test for a program's suitability is to use it *before* reading the
information booklet.  If I can perform at least 90% of the functions I need
this way, it's a winner. Your program was inherently understandable and
  intuitive to about 99%.
After using your superb program, I could not
imagine any serious collector (not just dealers) without it.     Texas

I also collect US coins, and have the two leading US coin programs.
Trust me, they don't have 10% of the power and features of Moneta.      Kentucky

It's a terrific program and one that I can't do without!
Thanks for a top-notch product!    Edmonton, Canada.
