Welcome
to the rules page of the internet's premier
ancient coinage discussion
group.
It may look like a lot,
but exercising civility, common sense, and
common courtesy will make the group appear to be "unmoderated".
Princeps
Rules: [violation will
result in moderation or expulsion]
1) No foul or offensive
language.
2) No "ad hominem"
attacks. Ideas may be criticized,
but personal
attacks will not be tolerated.
3) No discussion of modern
religious or sexual practice, or
modern politics.
The sole
exception to this rule is discussion
of modern legislation which
concerns
private ownership of ancient coinage.
4) Expulsions and
impositions of moderation will be announced to the list
and a reason
stated.
5) When moderation is
lifted from a member, it is the member's
choice
as to whether
or not the "un-moderation" is
announced.
6) Cross-postings from
other sources are allowed when the topic is
deemed
to be of general interest to
members. However, posts
critical
of other fora or groups are not allowed.
7) Advocation of illegal
activity (such as copyright
infringement)
will not be tolerated.
8) Members deemed as
bringing discredit to the numismatic community
may be expelled, even without direct
behavorial cause in this group.
9) Real names must be used
to sign posts. Your real name in the
email address
is
an acceptable way to do this.
Anonymous or psuedonymous posts are not allowed.
10)
Commercial links as part of signatures are permissable.
11)
Moderator actions may be appealed to the list owner, whose
judgment is final.
12) No sales announcements on well known sites, specifically eBay or
VCoins or
VAuctions among others, can be
made. It is expected that most members will
regularly find such items
themselves. The sole exception to this rule is where
the seller is offering substantial (at
least 10%) special discounts to list members
when using a stated discount code, and
even then is limited to once/month
(see guideline #2 below).
Princeps Policies: [guidelines
interpreted by the moderator(s) -
violation may
result in moderation]
1) Frivolous posts are
strongly discouraged. Repeat offenders will
be warned
and, if
necessary, moderated.
2) Limited commercial
announcements of general interest to members
are
allowed - but no more than
one/month per member. As a courtesy to
members who
may not be interested in commercial posts, all
commercial post
subject
lines are to be prefixed with " $$ - "
(e.g. - a post announcing a
book
sale will read "$$ - Books for Sale"). Note that eBay sales or
sales on other,
well-known sites (such as VCoins or VAuctions)
are generally not allowed, subject
to rule #12 above.
3) Posts on topics not directly numismatically oriented, but
probably containing
information of interest to most members should
be prefixed with "OT" for
"off-topic" (e.g. - a post regarding a
significant discovery in an ancient society which
did not produce coinage will read "OT - New
finds in Egypt's Valley of the Kings").
4) The preferred
forum
language is English but other languages
are acceptable,
and although
many of our members are multi-lingual,
best results will result
from posts
in English. The
moderator(s) may make good-faith efforts to
edit posts
from those for whom English is difficult.
5) When replying, trim any
text which is not relevant to your
reply
from the
previous message.
6) If replying to a message received in digest form, please
ensure the subject of your
message is the same as the message to which
you are replying.
7) Vulgarity will not be tolerated.
8)
When replying to posts which are not of interest to other members,
please take the
discussion off of the list (e.g. - when
an interest to meet is indicated the details should
be worked out off of the list).
