This Reference screen is opening screen of the Moneta Reference
Edition.
You can view over 435 single-spaced pages of reference material
on
denominations, imperial mints, and rulers. It is the most
information on
Roman coinage in a single source.

The following screen is the Moneta Reference Edition Lookup
screen. Searches
of Moneta's database can be made for obverse legends,
reverse legends, mint
marks, and provincial cities. The data can be
returned to this screen where the
date of the coin is usually established by
a combination of the legends and
mint mark. Once the information on a
given coin is established, the "Clear
Results" button is clicked to reset all
the fields for a new coin. This example
shows the results of search for
a coin from an Imperial mint.

The following screen shows a similar result, only
for a Greek provincial coin.

The following screen is the obverse legend screen which can
return the data
to the Lookups screen. This nearly always establishes
the ruler. A similar screen
searches for the reverse
legend.

The following screen
is one of Moneta's most powerful, the mint mark search screen.
Mint marks
often considerably narrow the dating of a coin.

The following screen is the city search
screen. Usually the reverse legend screen
will establish the city or
colony if the coin is a provincial, but sometimes a search
of the city
identifiers will help.
